Specialized School Programs

North Davis Elementary Library

The library at North Davis Elementary School is an active, busy, well used and
well loved facility. It is an integral part of the school program and as such,
an extension of the classroom. The library is staffed half time by Claire King
a credentialed teacher and a credentialed school librarian. Linda York is our
full-time library clerk. We also have a wonderful cadre of about 15 parent
volunteers who help us every week in various capacities.

The library is open from 7:30 in the morning until 3:30 in the afternoon. The time
before school is used to work specifically with teacher requests.Students may
return books at this time. Students are welcome to come to the library at recess,
lunch and after school. The library is open to students on a free-flow basis
throughout the entire school day with class groups scheduled concurrently each
week for integrated skills lessons, motivational reading activities, special
projects and book exchanges. Students in grades K-3 visit the library at least
twice a week in a large and small group, grades 4 and 5 come at least once a week
and 6th grade come as needed.

We check out about 20,000 library items a year. This does not count the very high
amount of in house use of materials.

In addition to ordering and processing all library materials, the library processes
and is accountable for all textbooks, supplementary materials for instruction,
curriculum related videos and audio visual equipment

Each year we host a fall and spring Book Fair during Parent Teacher Conference Week,
coordinate The Books Count Reading Incentive Program with the help of the PTA, and
organize The Battle of the Books an enrichment activity for grades 4-6.

Parents are invited and always welcome at any time to drop by our library and see
what this wonderful facility has to offer to their children.
