Candidates talk of Davis growth
By Claire St. John
Davis Enterprise staff writer
May 19, 2006
"In any desirable town, some growth is inevitable," Levy said. "The only question is on whose terms it happens. Refusing to build doesn't prevent growth, people still come. That causes unaffordable housing through scarcity, an aging population, and school closures because young families are outpriced, declining infrastructure because property taxes aren't available for maintenance and/or higher taxes.
"Davis is starting to see these effects."... See article.

... MIKE TO THE RESCUE ... the most intelligent comment I've heard on the type of police review panel Cecilia and her friends would like to impose upon the city comes from council candidate Mike Levy, who told the League of Women Voters forum: "I will not grant subpoena power and discipline authority over our police to a 15-year-old, a mentally ill person and a person we cannot reach because they have no address. That is not good judgment." ... amen, Brother Mike, amen ...

Mike Levy, a lawyer with preschool children, wants to ensure that the perspective and experiences of young families are represented on the Davis City Council. He has thoughtful ideas about everything from water conservation to trash disposal. He also talks sensibly about forging better ties between the university and the city.

Guest Opinion - An IT Strategy for Davis
By Mike Levy
The California Aggie
April 25, 2006
Notwithstanding the rapid pace of technological development, Davis lacks a comprehensive strategy to ensure its infrastructure keeps pace with our citizens' needs. Although a Telecommunications Taskforce was created in 2002, even today, an Information Technology Strategy is often overlooked and glaringly absent in the agenda of virtually all other City Council candidates - past and present. As with many issues, student and city interests here are congruent....

UCD grad joins City Council race Environmental lawyer Mike Levy hopes to connect with students
By Courtney Burks
The California Aggie

... Vanessa Robinson, committee and press chair of Levy's campaign, said she thinks
Levy will be a good person for the position because he possesses good resources
and is able to identify what issues citizens of Davis feel are
important.
"Levy has broad-base experience that allows him to be a true advocate for the students and residents [of Davis]," Robinson said.
Sheryl Patterson, co-coordinator of the planning committee of Levy's campaign, said she has worked with Levy on neighborhood issues in the past and that he is well qualified for city council. She said that she doesn't consider other candidates running against Levy to be as qualified.
"[Levy] has more experience and will make the best decisions possible," Patterson said. "He knows how to address the myriad of issues [in the city], and his opponents may not be ready."... more
Levy will run for council State water board attorney and frequent volunteer outlines ideas
By Claire St. John
Davis Enterprise staff writer
February 5, 2006
Mike Levy has been devoted to Davis since he co-founded a fraternity while getting a political science degree, through the brief hiatus when he lived in San Francisco and continuing now that he and his family have moved back to Davis.
Now he's going for the meat and potatoes of community service — a chair on the City Council....
Besides his ideas for streamlining and enriching meetings, Levy said he brings an environmental attorney’s viewpoint to the council, a young parent’s perspective — his daughter, Sarah, is 2 and a second daughter will be born in March — and a vision of growth that wouldn’t be accomplished strictly through infill.
“His professional background has trained him to consider very carefully every decision,” said Councilman Don Saylor, who attended Levy’s announcement event.
Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors President Jeff Adamski agreed.
“I like his calmness and civility,” he said ... more

By Claire St. John
Davis Enterprise staff writer

.... Although nobody's candidacy is definite until the filing deadline in February ... only one has confirmed he will run.
“Most of my friends have suggested that I run for council; I think it was just a matter of when for most of them,” said Mike Levy, an environmental attorney with the state Water Resources Control Board. “My wife and I have been talking about it on and off for years.”
Levy chaired the city's Governance Task Force and is a member of the Davis Natural Resources Advisory Commission, among other volunteer commitments.
Levy said the upcoming General Plan update needs to be a cooperative, not combative, process.
“I'm a strong believer in public participation,” he said. “We have some obvious, significant divides.”
Levy also would like to be a guiding hand in shoring up the city's economic base, he said
