Parinirvana of CTR

Parinirvana of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche

April 3, 2005 at the Davis Shambhala Meditation Center

Dear Sangha, Family, Friends, new practitioners, old practitioners, never even thought of practicing practitioners, come one, come all to the Celebration of the Parinirvana of the Vidyadhara Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche.

We will begin at 4:00pm on Sunday, April 3th with the chanting of the Sadhana of Mahamudra and the Sun of Wisdom Sadhana, then offer a great feast of the best foods, liquors, fragrances and all means of sensory delights that everyone is encouraged to bring, (call Marie Endres at 530-756-2771 to coordinate). And we will end when everyone has had a chance to offer a song, tell a joke, do a dance, recite a poem, offer a dramatic interpretation of the Iliad and the Odyssey, (in under two minutes), do a magic trick, offer a toast, laugh, cry, sit unbelievingly in the midst of the equal taste of joy and broken heart........what ever!

Please come.

Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche was one of the most dynamic teachers of Buddhism in the 20th Century. He was a pioneer in bringing the Buddhist teachings of Tibet to the West and is credited for introducing many important Buddhist concepts into the English language and psyche in a fresh and unique way. No less an authority than the Oxford English Dictionary cites his use of the word ego in one of its definitions.

He started the first Buddhist-inspired University in North America: The Naropa University; founded more than 100 meditation centres throughout the world; authored two dozen popular books on meditation, Buddhism, poetry, art and the Shambhala path of warriorship; brought many of the great Tibetan lineage holders to North America for the first time; and attracted several thousand students who have continued to spread his teachings and his legacy into the new milllenium.
