Vice Principals work with student to solve issues related to school success.  VPs work with counselors and parents to resolve issues before discipline becomes necessary.  While some school rules are guidelines that have some room for negotiation, many rules are specific and have specific, non-negotiable consequences.  Knowledge and understanding the school's behavior expectations are essential for your child's safety and the safety of others on campus.

The student/family oath is part of the school's and family's commitment to each other to promote good citizenship and assure a safe learning environment.

School Nurse

General medical information is located in your child's health file.  Appropriate notification is made to teachers.  HOWEVER, make sure your child's acute medical needs are made know to the school office.  It never hurts to review the protocol necessary to treat your child's health need.
The school nurse is knowledgeable and helpful with concerns related to adolescent development and specific health matters.  A secretary keeps prescription medications in a locked cabinet on campus and they are dispensed according to instruction or by the nurse.  Required documentation must be on file.  Medication should NOT be carried by the student while on campus or during school sponsored activities.

The school nurse is on campus on a limited basis each week.

OR

to talk directly to the Attendance Secretary
757-5445 ext. 116

Leave a message on the voice mail regarding your child's absence OR speak directly to the attendance secretary.  Please call as early in the morning as possible every day your child will be absent.  Leave a voice mail message at any time during the day or night regarding your child's attendance.
Please check handbook for specific information regarding absences.  All absences must be accounted for on attendance records.  Valuable student and staff time is wasted when appropriate attendance procedures are not followed.

The child is ultimately responsible for resolving attendance conflicts.  Dealing with the teacher is important when there is an unresolved absence.

Please pronounce your child's name slowly and spell the name if it is commonly misspelled.

AFTER 3 DAYS OF ABSENCE
Leave a message with the school counseling secretary that you are requesting homework.
757-5445 ext. 115
Teachers graciously provide homework to students who have been absent for more than three days.
Make sure your child has the names of at least two other students in each of his/her classes.  There is rarely time that another student is unwilling to help a classmate who is sick.  Encourage your child to select carefully who can be helpful, and get permission to call that student if questions arise.

Call school number
757-5453 and enter the teacher's voice mail number.  Give specifics on where and what times you can be reached.

Faculty voice mail numbers are available in the newsletter and through the voice mail system, as well as online.
Teachers regularly pick up voice mail messages.  Most teachers return calls within 24 hours.  If there is an EMERGENCY and you need to call within the day, please talk with an office staff member who will leave a message in the teacher's office mailbox, or in extreme cases, alert the teacher by hand delivered message.
Teachers may be contacted through E-mail or by way of a note directly delivered by your child or placed in the teacher's box by a secretary.  Voice mail extension and email  addresses are listed here.

It is common courtesy to make prior arrangements to meet with a teacher.  For safety reasons, parents need to check in at the office and receive a visitor's tag before entering the campus area.

The counselor can be of assistance in assessing issues related to the academic status, personal development and social well-being of your child.  Often it is comforting to speak with someone who has contact and knowledge of a great number of students the age of your child.  Consulting and referring are important aspects of a school counselor's job.  We offer more than 75 years of combined experience in working with this age group.
School counselors have access to many school, district, and community resources and can offer insight, consultation, referral, and validation regarding adolescent development.  It is a good place to begin.

The counselor can directly relate to the teacher any general concerns, and will communicate special needs accommodations.

The counselor is the first step in utilizing other school resources, such as speech therapy, crisis intervention, psychologist's services, community support, etc.
