Residents - Community - The Citizens General Plan

A message from people who brought you No on Measure X.

On November 7, 2005 Davis Voters defeated the flawed Covell Village project in a land slide victory. Citizens For Responsible Planning asks for your vote one more time:

Vote for Lamar Heystek and Stan Forbes for City Council on June 6, 2006.

Davis needs two City Council members to be elected on June 6, 2006 who will:
• Prioritize the concerns of Davis citizens and act in the best interest of the citizens, rather than developers.
• Resist “big money” special interests and represent the citizens of Davis. Davis Commissioner Lamar Heystek and former Council member/ School Board member Stan Forbes are the ONLY City Council candidates who actively opposed Measure X. Covell Village would have brought us more traffic, costs, and unaffordable housing.
• Respect and implement the good planning principles outlined in the 2001 citizens’ General Plan—a plan which took years to draft in an open, public process involving hundreds of Davis residents. The current Council majority has already begun taking steps to overturn our General Plan policies.
• Keep their campaign promises on slow growth and only consider approving housing within the General Plan that is affordable. Lamar and Stan both supported Measure J, which gave us the right to vote on Covell Village and future peripheral housing proposals, and will work to preserve Measure J.
• Treat citizens fairly at City Council and other public meetings, and restore City Council respect for public input.
• Stabilize our city finances through good long-term planning, rather than by rapid growth, short-term fixes.

Davis is a great place to live, but could easily become another congested, fast-growth valley city. The outcome of the June 6, 2006 election will determine the direction of Davis planning for the next decade and the fate of our citizen-based General Plan.
