NAMI-Yolo offers a family support groups in English and Spanish open to
those who care for a family member or friend living with a mental
illness and seeking a
supportive environment for sharing information, problem-solving strategies
and empathy. A trained NAMI-Yolo family member leads these groups. Other
organizations also offer support groups that may be helpful to family
members

A potluck lunch with separate group sessions for family members and
people with mental illness following the meal. The program is based
on a successful program begun in Menlo Park which incorporates faith in
achieving mental wellness without abandoning medication and medical needs
of clients.

This group no longer meets on a regular basis. **However**,
if you want to
talk one-on-one with someone who can provide information about issues
affecting people with mental illness between the ages of 16 and 25,
send an email
or phone the NAMI-Yolo Helpline (530-756-8181) and leave a voicemail
requesting to talk with someone who specializes in helping families with
teens and young adults with mental illness. If you don't receive a
return call, please email us.
Some of the topics that were covered by this support group included education, job skills,
treatment decisions, housing, independent living, SSI benefits, healthy
relationships, Medi-Cal vs. private insurance, medication issues,
"breaking away," advanced directives.

The Family Partnership
Support program has been discontinued indefinitely because of Yolo County
budget cuts.
Family Partnership, a program of the
Children's System of Care division of Yolo County Department of Alcohol,
Drug and Mental Health Services offers special assistance to families
including information, education, consultation, advocacy and support
services. They serve parents and caregivers of:
- Minors with mental health treatment
needs.
- Youth involved with Juvenile Justice.
- Children and youth involved with child
welfare.
- Children and youth receiving services
from Special Education due to Serious Emotional Difficulties (AB
3632/Chapter 26.5).
- Transition-age Youth (Ages 16-25).
